Bluegrass Jam Session
The second Sunday of each month (except May), from 6:00–9:00 pm, Bellewood hosts a Bluegrass Gospel Jam Session that is open to everyone in our community. Bluegrass musicians of every skill level, singers, fans, and their families are all welcome. If you like to play an acoustic instrument or sing such standards as “I’ll Fly Away,” then be sure to join us. The jam sessions are held in the downstairs Fellowship Hall of the church. We have regulars who play banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, Dobro, and standup bass, but we’re always looking for more! And we always need more vocalists, both lead and harmony. We use a songbook of bluegrass standards, a copy of which may be downloaded here, or you may pick up your free copy at the jam session. You may participate at any level you desire, from singing lead and harmony and taking instrumental breaks to just singing and strumming along quietly with the group.
In addition, Bellewood has its own Bluegrass Gospel Band that has performed without charge on numerous occasions at nursing homes and assisted living facilities, churches, and at the Northwest Folklife Festival. The band is eager to share the joy of bluegrass gospel music with the community. If you are interested in having the band present a bluegrass gospel music performance at your community event or facility, please contact the church office.
